my grandad wanted me to do something for the front cover of his art show catalogue. i've done a picture like this before, with the hair (blue without you). i was going to recycle it, but decided to do something a little bit more interesting. really like how it turned out, a bit peacockie... really like the way the colours turned out too, wasn't too sure how i wanted to colour it to begin with, glad i left some of it white.

little wolf

Finally got around to doing the first page of my children's book project last week, been sitting on that one for about two years now.
This was originally the story from my second year triangular book project. a bit of tweaking here and there and hopefully it'll be decent enough to get some attention. hopefully.

really love the colours on this one, and the texturing of the different layers in the background.

let me know what you think. more will come soon, and a better explanation of the story

kitty cats

Recently I've been carrying my camera around, mainly so I can take a photo of a situation or image I want to draw later on. But it's been quite fun taking pictures of strange things I've seen recently, so I thought I'd put a few up here, see what people think.

I'm certainly no photographer, but it is a lot of fun, and for some reason I have a lot of good shots of cats...

IF "island"

Beware of Cutthroat Island
absolutely love how this one turned out! she looks fab!
at first I was going to go for a hula-type island girls, a sort of 'welcome to the islands!' sort of image, but then i thought of treasure island and decided to do a more piratey theme. As the old shanty goes, 'dead men tell no tales', and so I decided on a lady pirate captain, which makes it all a bit more sinister I think.

This would look brilliant on a T-shirt!

homesick

Here are a couple of pictures I created whilst away this summer. As I didn't have much access to the internet it became quite hard to completely finish any of the pieces I drew, so I only have the two right now, but more should be on the way soon, now that I'm back and I'm connected!

I drew this on the plane over to New Zealand, where I spent the last two months. This one grew from my love of The Feeling, and of Pete, who I missed dearly while I was away.
I encorporated the writing to symbolise the letters I wrote home and to Pete while I was away, and I really like how they turned out. I was in two minds about the background, it started off as another texture but the picture looked too busy. In the end I came up with this one accidentally, but love how it looks like the roads on a map. Overall I'm really pleased with this one, it turned out great.

I drew this one with Pete in mind too, I got a bit soppy while I was away! I may edit this one later on, as I only had a few textures on my laptop to use, and I wanted to use a different effect on her hair. I quite like this image though, it captured the mood I was in quite well, despite not turning out as I had expected.

"electricity"

Illustration Friday Entry

The buzz word for this week was 'electricity'. At first I wanted to do an image based on the electricity between two people, but the idea was too similar to my previous entry, and I think a lot of people have chosen that one.

Making sure I steered clear of your average light bulb illustrations, I chose to carry on from a theme I created in a previous illustration; foxes.

Turned out ok, quite cute really. I was running out of time as it's thursday now, so it's only a small one. I'm quite pleased with it though.

Maybe I'll carry this on into a series of illustrations, 'things you didn't know about foxes'

the aardvark

I work for a pub in Coventry called The Aardvark, and recently they've been commissioning me to do their chalk board displays and events posters and flyers.

This is the most recent of those projects, the Aardvark F.C. emblem for their sponsored football team.

The drawings aren't amazing, but they make quite a nice set when they're all together, and it's nice to have a theme running through all the promotional material.
